Blackberry mint smash

Drinks

Jump to Recipe

We concocted this beverage on a bright and sunny spring evening when we were looking to leverage fresh blackberries and mint from the garden. The sweetness of the Cointreau mixes well with the tartness from the lemon juice and herbaceous from the gin. Plus, the muddled blackberry creates an eye-popping color that is sure to draw any potential imbiber right in!

Total Time 7 mins
Course Drinks
Servings 1 person

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin (we like Citadelle gin for mixing)
  • .75 oz Cointreau
  • .75 oz lemon juice
  • 3 mint sprigs (2 for muddling; 1 for garnish)
  • 4 blackberries
  • 1 dash angostura bitters

Instructions

  • In a cocktail shaker, muddle mint, blackberries, lemon juice and bitters.
  • Add ice, gin and Cointreau to a cocktail shaker. Shake aggressively so that the liquid takes in the flavor (and color!) of muddled blackberry and mint.
  • Pour through a fine strainer into a chilled martini or coupe glass. Garnish with mint sprig.
