During a recent trip to Tuscany, our most memorable dining experience was at Ristorante La Dogana, a family-owned restaurant tucked between the Tuscan hills and coast. It uniquely blended traditional and new-style offerings in a peaceful setting amongst the olive trees, sunshine and warm breeze. Following are photos and details of our multi-course meal, which capture the true ingredients, flavors and magic of a dining experience on the Tuscan coast.
We started off with two excellent fish dishes paired with an extra dry Senior Bortolomiol prosecco.
Pasta was the star of this course, which includes the squid ink tagliatelle the restaurant has been serving since 1975.
We paired these rich, flavorful secondi courses with a lighter local wine from 2015 called Panizzi Vernaccia di San Gimignano reserva.
For dessert, we sipped on Nonino moscato and espresso, and couldn’t resist tasting the chocolate cigar.
We didn’t eat like this at every meal, but when you’re in a special place at the right time, enjoying great service and hospitality, you feel inclined to make the most of it. Thanks to the talented staff at La Dogana, which we highly recommend.
